Your morning ritual is sacred. It should not be something you dread. Or something that is built upon self-hatred or the need to fix yourself. It isn’t something that you should just copy from someone else. It should be what you want to do, what feels right to you, what works for your lifestyle, and where you are on your journey. Your morning routine should consist of habits that have a purpose because you are more likely to stick to something where you know the benefits and why you are doing it.
You can have a simple morning ritual if that’s what works for you. You can have a 15-minute routine or a 2-hour one, or you have both and switch depending on your energy levels. Consistency is about showing up every morning not about pushing yourself to stick to a very long morning routine and going against what your body is telling of you. Your morning ritual is meant to decrease your stress levels not add to them. So, do what works for you and allow your morning routine ideas to fluctuate based on how you’re feeling that day.
HOW CAN I BEST SHOW UP FOR MY MORNING ROUTINE?
Mindsets:
- Start Small and Be Flexible
- Release the all-or-nothing mindset
- Don’t pack all that you want to do into a single morning routine because you will give up after a few days. This just leads you to feel drained and frustrated with yourself. Then you’re back to having no routine, not setting up your day right, and your mad yourself.
- It is better to show up every day with only 2 habits. For example, you make your bed and maybe step outside for sunlight because that’s what makes you feel good. That is way better than doing nothing at all.
- You want to start with just adding a couple of habits at a time. Start where you are. Don’t try to skip a million steps.
- Our energy levels and circumstances change depending on the day
- Follow your routine for the energy level you have that day. If you have low energy, that is okay, do what you can.
- Something I like to do is have a very basic core and simple morning ritual that you do no matter what. Then you have additions that you can switch in and out every day. This helps me to not get bored and still get everything done. I don’t try to fit it all in one day. I spread it out and put certain tasks based on the day of the week and the energy of that planet.
- Life gets in the way sometimes and that is okay, just focus on the day in front of you, do what you can do, and don’t push yourself. Remember consistency is better than perfection.
- Release the all-or-nothing mindset
- You Get to Love Yourself and Enjoy Your Morning
- Come From a Place of Self-love
- Stop coming from a place of self-hatred. Stop thinking that you have to be strict with yourself or that you have to follow someone else’s morning routine ideas. Just because it worked for them doesn’t mean it will work for you.
- You get to have an amazing morning. You get to enjoy your morning, so make it something that you look forward to.
- You are worthy of having a morning routine that prioritizes your well-being and happiness. You deserve to show up for yourself.
- Focus on Doing What Feels Good To You
- Allow your morning ritual to change for whatever season you are in life, so when making your morning routine just focus on where you are right now.
- Follow the path that makes you feel the best and that makes you feel excited to be alive. Focus on enjoyment, creativity, and gratitude over what you “should be doing” or what others are doing.
- Just start there with what feels good. Start small. Start with whatever feels right for you.
- Come From a Place of Self-love
Tips:
- Your morning ritual actually starts at night
- Make time for you to fall asleep and wind down.
- Start eating dinner and showering earlier.
- Set up everything the night before, so your morning is stress-free with more focus on enjoying the present.
- Create a night ritual that works for you
- Your ritual can be as small as just drinking hot tea and journaling and that’s it.
- Set the mood, make time, relax, and switch out watching tv for a book or journaling.
- Reflect on your day, plan ahead, and check in with yourself.
- Get good sleep
- Change your phone to red light when you’re trying to head to bed.
- Go to settings, accessibility, display & text size, color filters, turn it on, click color tint, and increase the intensity and hue. When you want to turn it on/off, click the on/off button 3 times.
- You can meditate into sleep or just do breathwork before bed.
- I like to listen to sleep affirmations, frequencies, or subliminals.
- Change your phone to red light when you’re trying to head to bed.
- Get in a good mindset and mood
- When you’re still half asleep, visualize your manifestations happening or a positive day ahead of you unfolding.
- Never snooze, instead say 3-2-1 fuck it.
- Plan some small things that you can look forward to.
WHAT SHOULD I ADD TO MY MORNING ROUTINE?
If you are lost at where to start and what to add to your morning ritual, here are some morning routine ideas that have helped me and that I enjoy. When adding to your morning routine, start very small, maybe pick 3 of these or 3 of your own and then build from there. These are only ideas to help you, so if none of them feel right to you, that is completely fine. This is only here to help you, so you don’t have to research anywhere else. Remember this routine should be about you, what feels good to you, what works for you, and that comes from a place of love for yourself not restriction and force.

I have never been able to stick to any routine ever because I felt pressured, I didn’t find it fun, and I always tried to create the longest morning routine checklist with a tight schedule. When I like to follow how I’m feeling, I get bored and like to switch it up. So, I always ended up giving up so quickly and being so hard on myself.
I switched my mindset from thinking that a morning ritual had to look the same every day and like everyone else’s to focusing on flow, enjoyment, what works for me, starting small, being kinder to myself, being present, and coming from a place of self-love. Allowing my morning ritual to change daily and the consistency is just me showing up changed everything. And, I hope it does for you too.
