I am on a journey toward clean living, but it has been difficult to find non-toxic products that are affordable and still good. It sucks that we live in a country where you have to pay extra just to have products and food that are safe, which is just the bare minimum. But, I am on the hunt for products in every category that work just as well while being non-toxic and still reasonably priced. Within these 10 non-toxic products that I have tested out, 8 are natural skin care products, one is a non toxic laundry detergent, and the last is organic pads.
When you begin this journey, you can get the urge to throw out all of your products and buy all non-toxic ones when that is pretty expensive and not realistic. To help you not feel as overwhelmed, just wait until you run out of a product then replace it with a new and natural one, and your house will be chemical-free in no time. I created a shop where you can buy each product listed below, visit https://widgets.shopstyle.com/?sc-widget-id=P-6477c11a8591ce28822f26ab to shop each non-toxic product I mention.
- Molly’s Suds Laundry Detergent
- Rating: 10/10
- Pros: First of all, the lavender scent smells amazing. It’s actually cheaper than Tide even though it is a non toxic laundry detergent. It lasts longer and is 2x as concentrated than other detergents. While Tide lasts for 62 loads, Molly’s Suds lasts for 100 washes. I love it even more. My clothes have been smelling even better, and it has eliminated even the toughest odors.
- Cons: None.
- Conclusion: Buy it now!!!! It’s saving you money, makes your clothes smell better, lasts longer, smells amazing, and obviously has no chemicals so it’s better for your health.

- Native Deodorant
- Rating: 6.5/10
- Pros: It smells good, and works well enough. I love the lavender and rose one.
- Cons: It’s pretty pricy for deodorant; it’s $4.89/oz, whereas you can get 4 Dove deodorants for the same price, and it’s definitely not the best deodorant I’ve tried.
- Conclusion: Ehhh, for the price, I don’t think it’s worth it. It doesn’t really last me that long but has some good scents. Personally, I couldn’t justify the price for the product because it’s only decent. For that reason, I wouldn’t recommend it. There are probably better non-toxic deodorants out there for a better price, and I will be on the search for one.

- Magnesium Oil
- Rating: 9/10
- Pros: It can replace your deodorant. It relieves muscles aches, pains, and cramps, helps your muscles relax, boosts energy, helps with anxiety, constipation, asthma, migraines, insomnia, and bladder problems, promotes a healthy heart, and helps keep your bones strong.
- Cons: It can sting in the beginning and make you feel slightly numb or tingle in that area for a little.
- Conclusion: I 100% recommend it, especially if your deodorant continuously doesn’t work. It’s probably because you’re magnesium deficient. It’s hard to have the right amount of magnesium just from your diet. It’s only $13 to make your own, lasts multiple bottles, and has so many benefits. It’s also a better alternative to the pill because there are no side effects.

- Honest face and body lotion
- Rating 7.5/10
- Pros: It is super cheap for a good-sized bottle and I like the smell. It is a thick and heavy lotion, pretty moisturizing, and I like it on my body.
- Cons: It didn’t work on my face. It clogged my pores and made me oily.
- Conclusion: I would say I recommend it because it was pretty cheap for the size of the bottle, it smells good, and it moisturizes my skin well. Again the only thing is the bottle says face and body, but I didn’t like it for my face. I did really liked it for my body and it is now my favorite lotion for after I shave.

- Hello Toothpaste
- Rating: 7/10
- Pros: It gets the job done. It is sulfates, dye, microbeads, triclosan, and gluten-free. It’s natural-friendly, not tested on animals, and some are fluoride-free.
- Cons: It is around the same price as Colgate, so not super expensive, but not the cheapest like Crest.
- Conclusion: Sure, there’s probably better out there, but it’s not tested on animals, is cheap enough, does its job, and is accessible, and non-toxic.
- Rating: 7/10
- Alaffia Body Lotion
- Rating: 8.5/10
- Pros: I’m obsessed with the lavender smell. It is cruelty-free, dries quickly, is light-weight, around the same price as other lotions like Aveeno, Love Beauty and Planet, and Method Body, but of course, these brands aren’t clean.
- Cons: It’s not super cheap, but good price.
- Conclusion: Yeah, I would recommend it because it smells good, does the job, is a good price, is a women-led business, plant-based, non-toxic, an amazing business out of Africa that does a lot of activism and empowerment projects, and you can read more about them at alaffia.com.

- Indian Healing Clay
- Rating: 9/10
- Pros: It works so well and is the best clay mask I have ever used. It makes my skin so soft after and has multiple uses. It is only $15 for 1 lb of powder, which will last you forever.
- Cons: You have to make it yourself and create the right consistency, and that can be a bit messy. It is more of a hassle than other masks. You dirty up a bowl and have to clean it too lol.
- Conclusion: I definitely recommend this product because I know it works. It’s non-toxic, has many uses, lasts a longggg time, and is inexpensive. What else do you need from a mask? The only reason that it’s not a 10/10 is because you have to make it yourself and that can be annoying.

- Shea Moisture Masks and Shampoo & Conditioner
- Rating: 8/10
- Pros: It is affordable and accessible for a non-toxic brand that also does not test on animals. It has many different lines for many different hair types. It is a black-led and women-led business. There are no sulfates, parabens, phthalates, mineral oil, or petrolatum.
- Cons: I have used a product that wasn’t meant for my hair type that left my hair greasy. The scent for certain lines are not my favorite.
- Conclusion: Yes, I recommend Shea Moisture because it is an accessible, affordable, and non-toxic brand. I have used multiple different shampoos & conditioners and a couple of masks and I have loved them all. Tip: I just recommend finding the line that is best for you and when you are shampooing your hair, lather it in your hands before lathering it in your scalp and shampoo at least twice. Right now, I’m using the high porosity hair mask and it smells amazing and is reviving my waves. Definitely one of my favorite chemical free shampoo and conditioner brands, I have tried.

- Weleda Skin Food Ultra-Rich Cream
- Rating: 9/10
- Pros: It is the most hydrating moisturizer I have used that also leaves my skin glowing. It is dermatologically tested, sustainable, and a natural skin care product.
- Cons: It is extremely thick and feels like you’re rubbing Vaseline on your skin. It is $15-20 for only 2.5 ounces.
- Conclusion: I totally recommend it. I have always had dry skin and patches, and no lotion has ever moisturized my skin so intensely. I will put this on a dry patch and it will be gone within days. When my face is in need of extra hydration, I will use it all over my skin, and my face is so soft and glowing for days.
- Rating: 9/10
- Rael Pads
- Rating: 9/10
- Pros: It’s a pretty good price. Standard pads are around 30 cents/each whereas this is 50-60 cents/each. It is fragrance-free so it doesn’t mess up your pH level, is chlorine-free, and is made from OCS organic cotton covers.
- Cons: There are only 12-14 pads per box compared to a “normal” 40 per box and are more expensive.
- Conclusion: I definitely recommend these because “normal” pads can be made with bleach, pesticides, and other harsh chemicals and fragrances. It is important to use non-toxic pads and tampons if you are able to. Using these pads, I had a more comfortable experience on my period overall from less cramps and odor to the pads themselves being more comfortable to wear.

Note:
*how I make my homemade magnesium oil: I make it with 2/3 cup of distilled water and 1/3 cup of magnesium flakes with the essential oils of your choosing. I bought a 1.65-pound bag for only $13, and you can make roughly 9 bottles. When you just start out and are magnesium deficient, it can burn so only apply a small amount and build your way up. You can apply it to your feet, hands, legs, stomach, and armpits.
